Breast Treatment

Recently there has been an increased use of IMRT for breast cancer. The main goal is to create a more conformal and uniform dose, one that shapes tightly to the disease. This potentially can lead to reductions in dose to other normal structures such as the heart and lung.

Compensators are ideal solutions for breast IMRT treatments for several reasons. One, the amount of time on the table is less with compensators since they require the linear accelerators to be on for a shorter amount of time. There is generally less unnecessary exposure to the patient for the same reason. Some clinical results are indicating that there is less skin damage with compensator based IMRT compared to MLC based.

Compensator-Based IMRT creates unique devices for every patient, for every treatment field, which helps deliver a more accurate and uniform dose to the patient.
