Compensator-Based Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (CB-IMRT) is an advanced method for delivering radiation to your patients’ tumors. Compensators modulate the fluence for a given field with a single constant beam, thus there is no temporal variation, no fraction-to fraction variability, and no moving parts. Compensators are precisely milled to the patient’s tumor size and shape from brass. Compensator-Based IMRT delivers beam fluence that is steady with time and not subject to the temporal fluctuations of smaller sub-fields associated with MLCs. For facilities that need to increase throughput and shorten planning time, treating with Compensator Based IMRT is advantageous.
